What is activated carbon?
Activated carbon is made from coal. The coal is purified using high temperature steam, leaving almost pure carbon. The carbon in this state is known as activated carbon, and is so filled with tiny holes that the surface area of just one teaspoonful of activated carbon will cover the area of a football field. Pure carbon is odorless and non-toxic. The surface of activated carbon has the property to attract many kinds of organic molecules and is ideal for filtering out harmful chemicals from water and air. The water coming out of your water tap has probably been filtered through swimming pool sized beds of activated carbon at your local water plant. The air in some public buildings passes through large tanks of activated carbon before being piped into the ventilation system. High grade store bought air and water filters are made of activated carbon.
Why is activated carbon good for odor removal?
Matters are constantly giving off some of their molecules into the air. These molecules, when breathed in and touches the olfactory nerves in your nose, makes your brain recognize it as a certain smell, be it fine perfume or common garlic. These odor molecules are very small and are not visible, but just a few present is enough to trigger your smell senses. Getting these molecules out of the air, by making them stick to the surface of the activated carbon, is the best way to remove unpleasant odor. Activated carbon used in C-Magic is industrial quality, the same type of activated carbon that is used by your local waste treatment plant. It is much better to remove the causes of foul odor than to cover it with a strong perfume smell.
Is activated carbon safe?
Activated carbon is pure carbon, which is very safe and non-toxic. It is even more pure than your barbecue charcoal. Clean activated carbon can be ingested in small quantities without harm. However, like all household cleaning agents, it should not be misused. The caps of C-Magic are designed not to be screwed open. When the useful life of your C-Magic is over, dispose of it in a responsible manner. The plastic container can be recycled and activated carbon itself is bio-degradable.
